The Prostate Gland

What Every Man Should Know About

Prostate problems will affect ninety percent of all American men at some point in their lifetime, but as strange as it may seem, many men still know very little about their prostate gland and what its function is.

What is the prostate gland?

The prostate gland is roughly the size of a walnut and is only found in men. It is located between the pubic bone and the rectum. The urethra passes through the prostate and tubes from the reproductive system meet with the urethra in the prostate gland. The prostate gland is a key mechanism in a man’s reproductive system and squeezes suddenly during orgasm to force semen down the urethra.

Throughout a man’s life the prostate gland grows.  Once a man passes about 45 the growth of the prostate will accelerate and the majority of men(about 90%) will begin to experience the symptoms of an enlarged gland in their 40’s and 50’s.  The simple growth of the prostate gland at this stage of a man’s life is simply a normal part of the aging process is referred to as benign prostatic hyperplasia, or BPH.  On its own this is nothing to be too worried about as this only means that there is an increased growth of tissue in the prostate gland, not cancer itself.

In many cases the enlarged gland only produces some mild discomfort which many men to choose to live with.  However, for others the gland may become so enlarged that it squeezes the urethra enough to cause a variety of symptoms which persuade most to seek treatments to relieve the discomfort.

When the prostate gland starts to grow it begins to put pressure on the urethra so the first signs of an enlarged prostate are often seen when it comes to urinating.   For some it may be the feeling of strain when trying to begin to urinate.  You might also experience a weaker urine flow or more frequent need to urinate.  Others experience a burning feeling when urinating.  Some men may also experience a loss of libido, or weaker sex drive.

In some cases the enlarged prostate gland could be signs of prostate cancer.  If you are experiencing symptoms which are suggestive of a prostate problem it is important to talk to you doctor and confirm whether the condition is BPH or signs of a more serious condition.

Prostate problems can be overcome or controlled inexpensively.  If you are looking for a natural and effective way to manage your enlarged prostate, we suggest Healthy Choice Naturals Prostate Care.
